Bearsden is a great venue for spectators. The bar will be open all day long serving drinks and food, and of course there will be the legendary SUDS BBQ! Bearsden also has a fantastic viewing terrace, with a great outlook onto both slopes. There's no ticket required, just come along and see what it's all about.
Slalom will take place from the top of the main slope (spectators’ right). Slalom at Bearsden is a fantastic discipline for experts and novices alike, flowing and open but still with the potential to be very exciting when tackled by the more experienced racers. If someone has never competed before, this is the perfect place to start!
There will be two runs, on separate courses, with racers ranked according to the total time, that being the two runs added up. Awards will be made for 3rd-1st in each category. If a racer does not finish their first run (DNF or DSQ) they are allowed to have a second run if they wish, but they will not be counted in the overall results.
The snowboard slalom is also from the top of the main slope. It runs after the first run of the ski slalom, using the same (snowboard-friendly) course for both runs. It is the same two-run combined time format, with awards for 3rd-1st in each category.
Duals take place from the top of the main slope (spectators’ right). The top 16 from each category of ski slalom, and top 8 from snowboard slalom, are drawn against each other where 1st races 16th, 2nd races 15th, and so on. Two parallel courses are set and racers compete in a head-to-head knockout. Awards are made for 4th-1st in each category.
Team duals follow a similar format to individual, but anyone from your college or university can compete for you, and the race runs as a team relay. Ski teams are made of 5, and snowboard teams of 4 (in any case, at least one of each gender). Teams who cannot meet this criteria will be allowed to compete in their first match-up, however they will be unable to progress, regardless of the result. All competitors must represent their own university only - no ringers will be allowed. Awards are made for 4th-1st in each category.
Team Duals results also count as round 2 of the Scottish Kings league!
The Rail Jam will also take place on the race slope, after the individual slaloms but before duals. This will be a much more relaxed affair: a jam session with music, spot prizes, the organiser’s terrible chat, plenty of bails and a big atmosphere! Our panel of judges will keep their beady eyes out and select a top 3 for each category.
This will take place on the jump slope (spectators’ left). An open jam session will be run first, with all competitors given a chance to practise on the Bearsden jump, and then we’ll have a 2-run qualifier overseen by our panel of judges who will decide who qualifies for the final. The 3-run final will take place straight after, with the top 8 men and women (dependent on entry numbers) of both ski and board fighting for top spot!
